I don’t normally like to talk about myself, but figure you might not be interested in reading my book or my blog unless you know at least a teensy weensy bit about my life experiences and the focus of my writing. Above all else, I am loved and I am blessed. I can’t ask for much more than that. Well, I could, but it would make me seem so ungrateful…

I have an extraordinary family that brings me great joy. My husband took a risk on a girl he met at an Oakland Airport bus stop, and, well, we’ve been married for 20 years now.  We’re are empty nesters, unless, of course, you count the two cats and two dogs, and the thousands of dust bunnies that reside in nooks and crannies about the house. We’ve gone through more than our share of difficult times in just about every category imaginable. If I let enough time pass and maintain a robust sense of humor, everything becomes bearable and sometimes even funny. If you’re lucky, I’ll share some of those stories with you.

My first mystery, Braha, is now available on Amazon and other online books stores in print and as a Kindle ebook. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem. You can download a free Kindle app to your mobile phone, tablet or computer. To find out more about the book or to purchase a copy, visit Amazon.com. Thank you for everything today, Julie, and for this beautifully written About page. Much of what you’ve written herein applies to me as well. So thank you for your courage, and for writing from the heart.

Where did you get the name for your book?
It is a very unusual name!!!

Braha is the name of a fictional town in Finland. I could have easily used the name of a real town, but since I’ve never been to Finland, I worried that I would misrepresent it. For that reason I chose to create a name that sounded similar to other towns in the area. It was based on the real town of Raahe.

Hi – I read and enjoyed your book very much. Thank you, and congratulations on a job well done. As a fellow Volga German descendant, I could really relate to a lot of the history you wrote about.

We also have a family connection: my sister-in-law, Sandy Fritzler Jaber, visited your family in Texas some years ago, and she recommended your book to me. We are having a family reunion next summer, and I am currently preparing a family memoir/history. Would it be possible for me to reprint the preface from your book in this memoir? Full credit, of course. It was the best and most concise explanation of the Volga German experience I’ve ever seen.

    Thank you again,
    Carol Johnson

I don’t know how I missed your note, but am glad I can now respond. Yes, Sandy stayed with us when she visited my mom, her cousin. We had such a nice time together. You are very welcome to reprint the preface of my book for your family reunion. I’m glad you found it helpful and easy to read. It was quite difficult choosing what to focus on and how to keep it simple for readers who don’t know anything about the Germans from Russia.
